Encounters with the Divine: Prayerful Moments

By Anthony Boateng

Deepen your spiritual bonds through sacred conversations in your prayerful moments.

Amen.

Prayer for the the Queen and King

Creator God,
We give thanks for the life of
Her Most Gracious Majesty,
Queen Elizabeth II.
We honour her life of service
built on a firm foundation of faith
and an exemplary commitment to duty.

At this challenging time for this nation,
We us that you grant us words to speak when words are all we bear
To ease the pain of those who mourn
And show our loving care.

We especially pray for Prince Charles III,
Lord help him to lean upon
The only perfect Word,
Whose tears and anger showed his love
For sinners whom He cured.

We pray that God will enfold him,
Christ will uphold him,
Holy Spirit will keep him in heaven’s sight;
So may God grace him,
Heal and embrace him,
Lead him through darkness
Into the light.

Till weeping has passed;
When flickering hope parts the shadows at last.
One step at a time, help him to move
to face new horizons, held safe in your love.
We offer our prayer in the name of
Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Amen.

God of justice, we recognize that historically in international development, power has rested with large, multinational, predominantly white NGOs who have implemented projects for communities rather than with them. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, we have at times allowed imperialistic and colonialist beliefs to influence decisions. For example, by adopting a false rhetoric that people of colour need capable white leaders and educators to create change and rescue them from their own helplessness.

God of justice, we pray for equality. For a world where all have a voice and our actions do not leave people feeling as if their experiences are ignored or invalidated.

We pray for all working to change this by shifting power towards local communities to help produce lasting results. To avoid assumptions that those who hold power always know what is best for marginalized people. Grant us wisdom and humility at all times when making decisions. Help us at all times to fully consider the impact of our decisions.

May we always ask countries and communities where we seek to serve what they need and offer that support. Help us to enable communities to identify their problems, find lasting solutions, and take action. So that they are self-reliant, resilient, and have an improved standard of living and an active faith.

We reflect on challenges such as natural disasters and how they can turn our world upside down. We hold in mind organizations such as Eagles who continue to work tirelessly to implement programs by building community resilience through training and support in areas such as food security, climate change, disaster risk management, health, and income generation.

We ask for greater awareness of where power needs to be redistributed in our churches. For a just and fair church that seeks the welfare of all. Where leaders guide with prudent care and nurture life for great and small.

God of Mercy,
We have come to bathe our eyes in your word Lord Jesus
Wash our heart in your cleansing stream as we journey through Lent
Here is mercy and forgiveness
I shall be clean again
I shall be clean again

Have mercy on us, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out our transgressions.
Wash away all our iniquity and cleanse us from our sin.
For we know our transgressions, and our sin is always before us.
Against you, you only, have we sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.
We were sinful at birth, sinful from the time our mother conceived us.
Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught us wisdom in that secret place. Cleanse us and we will be clean; wash us, and we will be whiter than snow.

God of mercy,
We have come to bathe our eyes in your word Lord Jesus
Wash our heart in your cleansing stream as we journey through Lent
Here is mercy and forgiveness
I shall be clean again
I shall be clean again

Let us hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Hide your face from our sins and blot out all our iniquity.
10 Create in us a pure heart, O God,and renew your steadfast spirit within us.
11 Do not cast us from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from us.
12 Restore to us the joy of your salvation and grant us a willing spirit, to sustain us. 13 Use us to teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you.

God of mercy,
We have come to bathe our eyes in your word Lord Jesus
Wash our heart in your cleansing stream as we journey through Lent
Here is mercy and forgiveness
I shall be clean again
I shall be clean again

14 Deliver us from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, you who are God our Savior, and our tongue will sing of your righteousness.
15 Open our lips, Lord, and our mouth will declare your praise.
16 You do not delight in sacrifice;you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
17 Our sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;a broken and contrite heart.
18 May it please you to prosper Zion, to rebuild your church in your image?

Amen.

Everlasting God,
We thank you for looking over our lives throughout the year,
In our ups and downs you have not left our side
We thank you for the opportunity to be a witness to this day
The privilege to get a glimpse of the change that lies ahead of us.
To witness the fulfilment of your promise

We will sing with joy, God of justice.
We will sing with joy, God of hope.
We will sing with joy, strong deliverer.

Jesus, Jesus
The wait is done
Our king has come to us
Jesus, Jesus,
We can now give our praise to Him
The promise one has come
Has come.

Everlasting God,
We adore you, O God, our King;
You are our everlasting God,
Our whole being exults in you.
Your name shall be always upon our lips.
Your love is great, and greatly to be praised.
We will sing with joy, God of justice.
We will sing with joy, God of hope.
We will sing with joy, strong deliverer.

Jesus, Jesus
The wait is done
Our king has come to us
Jesus, Jesus,
We can now give our praise to Him
The promise one has come

Everlasting God,
Thank you for strengthening us in our wait for you
Our words shall resound with proclamation of your goodness and righteousness.
Hope of the hopeless, Joy-bringer, Light and hope of the world,
Lover of justice, Voice to the voiceless. Prince of peace
when we consider all the works your hand has made,
The sea, the star and your power throughout the universe displays.
We trust that all will be well in even though at times things will be get tough we will not fait or grow weary,
For your light, your glory is here to set us free.
Our eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all people.
We cannot thank you enough everlasting God

We will sing with joy, God of justice.
We will sing with joy, God of hope.
We will sing with joy, Strong deliverer.
